International Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712.2006/ISO 9712-20059712 establishes the principles for the qualification and certification of personnel who perform Industrial non-destructive testing in Canada.
The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB), for use by the Canadian certifying body, NRCan, has adopted a certification standard which mandates additional requirements to the renewal and re-certification compliance of NDT practitioners in Canada.

"Renewal. Prior to the completion of first period of validity and every ten years thereafter, certification may be renewed by the certification body for a new period of five years on production of……."

"Recertification. Prior to the completion of each second period of validity (every ten years), the certified individual may be recertified be the certification body for a new period of five years or less, provided the individual meets the criterion for renewal and applicable conditions."
